CR – this one looks really fishy, in fact I am pretty sure it’s scam, because legitimate companies will not contact you out of blue unless you applied.

Has anyone done business with Beyond Marketing Group? They say that they pay $400 upfront and then you use the balance of the money for expenses. This sounds like a scam to me.

6. Princess says:

I did some mystery shopping for YMCAs with this company and got paid. But, I do agree any check issued before work completed and asking for western union transfer has to be a scam. Please be careful/
I dont know if anyone has worked for this company before or not. I got an email from them and never replied back and then they sent me a check and a letter. I am supposed to cash the check, take out 200 bucks and then send the rest via western union. I feel like this is a scam because they are giving me the money upfront rather than waiting for my mystery shopper report. I have not cashed the check and dont plan on it until I get more information. More likely than not I wont go through with this. I would greatly appreciate some information. Thanks.
Hi All,

I have done dozens of shops through Kern Scheduling and have always been paid on time. Maybe the scheduler you are working with just isn’t very good…..

9. Rhonda says:

I did several shops for Checkup Marketing in January. They owe me $300+ and have not paid me, and they are not responding to emails, voice mails, or faxes.

10. sade says:

Which company offer shops in Torrance or Long Beach?

11. qq says:

 no payment

12. Dee says:

I work with Kernscheduling and have not ever had a problem. The scheduler is professional and courteous, and many of the shops are high quality, offering $45 worth of food on restaurant shops.

Try them and decided for yourself.

I would not recommend Kern Scheduling. The scheduler that I had was constantly sending assignments that were already expired and then wanting them done at the last minute. If you have an issue with the scheduler and you contact the the CEO you will find that there are many excuses given, but no results. Stay away from this company
Thanks for the warning! I am receiving shopping invitations from KSS.
Thanks.
Do not cash the check. I recently got a similar check (unsolicited) from a company named Consumer Research Center Inc. It all looked very real. They said to keep 300 for my self, wire 1800 through W Union, 150 was for the wire fee and spend 150 at either K-Mart Walmart or Best Buy. I have contacted the back and they said the FBI was involed concerning this particular scam. They also asked me to send them what I received. Hopefully they get prints or something to nab these people! The name of the company is real and the address of it matches up, but the actual company is a phone company. The credit union drawn on is real and the address on it is correct too. The check looks extremely real. A big red flag was the urgency where they wanted me to do it within 48 hours. It’s a red flag, because it shows they want you to do it before you find out from your bank that the check is bad. Of course, what they are after is the 1800 dollars they want me to wire.

Oh no. I just came home from doing my first shop for Channel Watch. Should have checked this website out first. I was getting a little suspicious since their toll free number is not in service and an email I sent to the job scheduler came back undeliverable. The shop was easy and I was in the area doing another shop, so no big loss. I’m more concerned about giving my SSN to them if their not legit. I think this is going to be my first and last shop for them. Do you folk think it’s safe to send them my W-9?

25. Manuel says:

Hi, I joined international service check 2 months ago.

30. Kara says:

Im so confused! How do i figure out where to go or how to sign up to be a secret shopper?!

31. jules says:

Homeless,
Whatever company you choose, check with BBB.com. it’s your safest bet not to give your SS to a bunch of crooks. SO far I have used Market force, Corporate research and Behond Hello. I was paid as promised, no hassle, with MFI and CRI. I should get my first check with Behond Hello next month, so we’ll see.You wont get rich with mystery shopping, but definetely better than nothing. CRI pays the fastest. Best of luck!

Thanks Angela

35. riri says:

Gfk Pays most of the time but you get alot of threats for non-payment if they say things were not completed properly. That has happened a couple of times. For their Best Buy Audits they want you to spend at least 12 hours. This takes 2 days. The pay is 130 but does not include travel or data entry. The date entry usually takes up to 3 more hours at home on your computer. This can sometimes break down to 5 or 6 dollars an hour and can be quite stressful plus taking pictures and sending those as well. This a full audit so the pay seems sparce. Alot of people quit and the ones that stick around for the abuse are in dire need of money. This company knows this and takes full advantage. I can only imagine that their fee is at least 2000 per shop.

36. Judi Bates says:

I just read about a dozen articles all saying ANY company who SENDS you a CHECK to cash (say at walmart) and says you”ll get to keep a portion, ITS a SCAMMMM!!! the check bounced and the retailer comes after YOU!!!!!

Hi Stephanie, thank you very much for sharing your experience. Very helpful! Hope you enjoy doing paid surveys too! :cheer:

73. Stephanie says:

I don’t know how exactly I stumbled across this web page, but it sure has helped.

I just started mystery shopping like a month and a half ago but have had some good fortune with the following companies:

- Kern Scheduling Services: They are a scheduling company so they are linked with numerous mystery shopping companies. Filling out one application is like applying to SEVERAL different companies
- Shoppers’ Critique: They are a reputable company I have enjoyed working with. Their pay out usually comes in a little less than a month
- Jancyn: They are also a decent company with slightly less than a month pay out
- Secret Shopping Services: Their pay out is at the end of the following month so it can be anywhere from one to almost two months to be paid
- BARE International: They average about a month as well to paying you back but they only cut checks, no Paypal payments
- Corporate Research International: They are legit, plus they have one of the fastest pay outs, averaging about two weeks. I have very much enjoyed working with them :-)
- Quality Assessment Mystery Shoppers: They cut checks as well but they are cut immediately. I completed three shops for them on 9/8 and received my check on 9/16! ;-)

Those are just the best companies I’ve found so far, but of course, it always depends on if they have any assignments available in your area. Hope that helps!

Just checked the Quest for Best website for the info/assignment I received. Seemed suspicious to me. Apparently there is a scam in which someone is using their company info and sending cashier’s checks for ‘work’ and a wire transfer. (Note: Quest for Best website is aware and has a scam notification on their home page.) Just wanted to let anyone out there know that the company is legit, but the scammers are using it to their advantage. DO NOT CASH THE CASHIER’S CHECK!!!

Hi,
I’m doing some STEP tests with a mystery shopping company MQS (plz reverse these letters).
I really need the work, as they have many local restaurants, and stores. There are 7 or so STEP tests that need to be completed before they’ll even consider me and they only allow me to do the test twice daily. I must successfully complete one step before I can advance to the next. Each STEP must be completed with 25/25. Can someone please, please help me with the tests. I’ve only made it to level 2 so far.
Many thanks again!!

79. mlynn.admin says:

thanks

84. Nancy says:

Before I even started I was getting charged $1.95 and then $7 for another company that i dont even remember signing up for. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR ACCOUNT. THEY WILL SIGN U UP FOR SURPLUS SUPPLIER, FAVOR CITY, NATIONAL TRIP, SURPLUS SUPPLIES. Even if u tell them that yr only interested in one they’ll say you get a trial period. But they dont tell u that they are charging an initial fees for all the other ones that they signed u up for. It’s dangerous. So warning to everyone, it’s a scam and cancel asap b4 anything. plus, once you do start you could get checks that are fake and they could take all your money in your account. So beware. I learn to get a real job, it’s legit. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Good luck ppl. I hope this helped.

85. Dorothy says:

Have you heard anything about Corporate Research International for Mystery Shopping. Thanks

86. mlynn.admin says:

I don’t think shopper select has surveys, and if they charge you a fee for registration, I think they probably will just give you a list of mystery shopping companies in your area..

Hi ms starr, sorry I can’t help you on this. I just signed up a couple of companies (I don’t even remember which ones..), and never heard from them…I figured paid surveys is much easier. :o …I would suggest you went to the MSPA website (http://www.mysteryshop.org), they have lot of information and discussion board.

95. ms starr says:

can you please tell me the the mystery shopper company you went with and secondly have you heard of shoppers critique international before?are the real or scam.

96. Bruce says:

I just received a check from Pacific Staffing Agency for $3,850. They wanted me to wire $3,425 back. They must be kidding. I have read online that others have been scammed by them. Keep a watch for these clowns.

98. Shirley Jones says:

Do you have any information on http://www.shadowshopper.com
Also, I know of a very good secrete shopper website that is legitamate.
It is http://www.Shoppershotline.com I have made money from scanning my groceries, etc every week and from my internet usage. They give you points like http://www.mysurvey.com does, which can be converted to cash once you get at least 625 points. 625points=$10.00. I would like to know if shadowshopper similar or how different, and if it is scam or not.

Cheryl,

You are suppose to send 3000.00 to someone in UK? Don’t do it – it’s scam! Don’t give your bank and other information to anyone! Hope it’s not late!

103. cheryl says:

I received a check for 3450.00 from JM Ridgeway. I know it has to be a scam. I am supposed to evaluate Western Union and send 3000.00 to someone in UK. Hmmmm. I am fearful they will get my bank # and clean me out. Does anyone know about them. gracious

:P I rec’d a check from frontline Shoppers Channel for $3947.00 too. Why is it a scam and what do they gain from it?

110. Lorine says:

I did three shops the 2nd of Oct. and have yet to get a check. What is the reason for not sending it.

111. mlynn.admin says:

Hi Qui,

Thanks very much for sharing your experience! Your advice make sense!

112. Qui says:

I received a letter and check today from Frontline Shoppers Channel Inc. in the amount of $3947.00. I knew right away it was a scam. First clue was no return address, second it was not sent by first class mail. The stamp was Canadian. Third the letter contained several misspelled words. Be careful out there and remember nothing is free.

I’ve seen some mystery shopping companies that ask for my DL# and my auto insurance information. Is that legitimate?

114. Danielle says:

There are some mystery shopping companies like “a top shop” that ask for my driver’s license number and insurance information. Is that legitimate?

115. Mei says:

Hi CLB,

Whoever sent you the check, it’s is SCAM! Mystery shopping companies would NEVER pay in advance for work, usually you have to perform the work first, and submit a report, then get paid.

Also remember, scammers usually run the scam under legitimate companies name.

So DO NOT CASH THE CHECK!

116. CLB says:

To: William Lawrence, TC, and Shirley Jones (and anyone else with any info) — What company sent you the bad check? I just got a check from Myers Industries (from “Myers Employment Agency” to do work for “Datatron”). Anyone know anything about this people??? Thanks.

117. Shirley Jones says:

My mother recieved a check to do 3 shops form what we thought was shadowshopper, but after going to there website
I found out that there is a scam going on where a group of people have sent checks out in there namen which bounced.

118. sue says:

1. I don’t give my SS# to mystery shop companies until I do a few shops for them. To bypass this on the sign up type in your last four numbers like this 000-00-1234.
2. Do not ever under any circumstance cash a check for anyone or a business! They say you are doing a shop and get to keep a portion of the check or they will pay you after the cashing of the check! Do not do it…it’s a scam! I have seen these checks and what they require you to do is hardly anywork…just cashing the check. Be leery of anything you receive in the mail from a MS company. YOU are the one that has to apply and get the job-not them coming to you!

Hi laurasMom,

Thanks very much for the heads up and feedback!

129. LaurasMom says:

Watch out for Kern Scheduling! Their schedulers aren’t very well trained and often drop the ball in being the “go-between” with their clients. Careful that your pay isn’t delayed because you’re offered a shop for a project that expired with their client months ago (actually happened).

130. Mei says:

Hi Mystery,

Thanks for the information!

131. Mystery says:

Be Wary of B.E.S the recruiter isn’t very prfessional.

132. Mei says:

Hi mngrandma2,

Most mystery shopping companies will ask you to provide SS#, since they might need to report your earnings to IRS and send you a 1099 form if you make over $600 a year.

If you have more questions, I suggest you visit MSPA website (http://www.mysteryshop.org/shoppers/), there are lot of good info there, and a message board you can ask questions.

Good luck and Best regards!
